Virginia J. “Jean” (Scampone) Albano, 95, passed away with her family by her side on Monday, January 16, 2017, in The Pines after a long illness.

Virginia was born in Utica on February 7, 1921, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Rosina “Rose” (Mallozzi) Scampone. She was educated locally. On April 16, 1941, Virginia married Joseph Albano. The couple were happily married and inseparable for over sixty years, until Joe passed away on August 31, 2001. At one time, Jean worked as a supervisor at UNIVAC, from where she retired.

She also worked with her brother Sam at The Family Restaurant. Jean loved to play Bingo and cards, and was always “cooking up a storm”. Jean and her husband also enjoyed thirty-three years in Boyton Beach, FL.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Marie Albano, of Utica; her sister, Rose Sangiacomo, of Utica; godchild, MaryAnn Bottini; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Salvatore “Sam” Jr. and Clarice Scampone; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Ercole Ventura, Mary “Pia” and Arthur Battista, Margaret Geraci, Eva and Vincent Insogna, and Jerry Sangiacomo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carmen and Theresa Albano, Anthony Albano, Rose and Andy Damiano, and Agnes Ellis.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish with interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday (today) from 5-7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides on the third floor of the The Pines, especially Cindy, Kim, and Denise, for their kindness and care.

Please omit floral donations.
