Mr. Richard F. “Richie” Montero, Jr. 67, died unexpectedly due to cardiac complications on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. His loved ones were by his side.

Rich was born in Utica on March 30, 1950, a son of the late Richard F. “Dick” and Virginia A. (Risucci) Montero Sr. He was raised in Utica, where he attended local schools and graduated from TR Proctor High School.

A person would have to live three lifetimes to do all that Richie did in life. He was a talented chef who worked all over the country on cruise ships, restaurants, movie sets and on private yachts. More recently, he was a consultant to restaurants in New York City. He also owned and operated his own restaurants and pizzerias. A longtime car salesman, Rich was affiliated with the Carbone Group for many years. He operated his own car business in earlier years in Rome. Rich was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to be in the woods with his dogs. He found great enjoyment hunting, fishing, and mushrooming, with a good meal after. Some of the best times of his life were spent in the woods in White Lake.

He was joined in marriage to the former Nancy Lyons on September 26, 1995 and they have spent over thirty loving years together.

Rich was an outspoken conservative and a loyal Trump supporter; he loved to voice his opinion and made sure everyone heard it. Life was never dull when Rich was around because he could always stir the pot and make your blood boil; he was like Utica Grind, we needed him to spice things up.

Ultimately, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who will be very deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy; always close to his heart was his late son, Richard L. Montero; he is also survived by his grandson, Marquis Bradford; his brother, Gary Montero; and his sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Steve Bussey; his favorite niece, Alexandra Critelli; and nephew, Conner Critelli; step children, Todd Lyons, Brian Lyons, and Scott and Lisa Lyons; four step grandchildren, Brenna, Sarah, Josh, and Mackenzie; and also many uncles, cousins, and friends.

There are no formal funeral services or calling hours. Rich’s family will honor him in a private gathering. In memory of Rich Montero, please consider donations to the Steven Swan Humane Society.
