Mrs. Carmelita Marie (Valenti) Mariano, 84, formerly of the Steinhorst Apartments, and more recently St. Luke’s Home, passed away with her loved ones by her side on Monday, July 31, 2017 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare.

Carmelita was born in Utica on April 25, 1933, a daughter of the late Carmen and Lenora (DeLuca) Valenti. She attended Mt. Carmel School. As a young woman, she worked at Utica Emblem Co. and later as a private home health aide. She was a devoted communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and later St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church.

Carmelita was a quiet woman who led a simple life, but she would give you the shirt off her own back if you were in need.

Carmelita will be sadly missed by her two beloved sons and a daughter-in-law, Ken and JoAnn Mariano and John Mariano.

Her family honored her in a private gathering and she was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Luke’s Home for all the compassion and care shown to Carmelita during her stay there.

Arrangements are with The Matt Funeral Home, Utica.

Losing a Mother makes you question the meaning of everything. We hope you remember all the little things that made your Mother special to you . Sometimes we wish we were little again and we had our Mother to take care of us. We're sure your Mother would want you to remember those times, the best times, and not the more recent time when you had to take care of her.
