Mrs. Shirley Helen (LaRock) Giannotti, 84, passed away with her loved ones by her side after a long illness on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the St. Luke’s Home.

Shirley was born in Utica on January 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Lewis and Agnes (Traver) LaRock. She was educated in Utica and Whitesboro Schools, as well as, St. Joseph Catholic School in Utica. On April 23, 1955, Shirley was joined in marriage to Louis J. Giannotti, a Captain in the Utica Fire Department. They shared thirty-two loving years together until his passing at a young age on February 11, 1987. Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; and worked for a short time later in life at the Stanley Theater. She loved spending time with the seniors, especially when they went to the casino.

She is survived by her two beloved daughters and son-in-law, Sandra and Edward Schleider, and Luann Giannotti, all of Utica; four grandchildren, Christie Schleider, Michael Schleider, Louis and his wife, Josette Lasher, and Daphne LaPoint; two great grandchildren, Louis and Rocco Lasher; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anthony and Karen Giannotti, Joseph and Carol Giannotti, and Carmela and Edward Nassimos; and also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary, who was always in her heart; her brother and sister-in-law, Gerry and Patricia LaRock; and her mother-in-law and father-in law, Mary and Mike Giannotti.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Historic Old St. Johns Church with interment beside her husband in St. Agnes Cemetery.

There will be a visitation on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the St. Luke’s Home, especially Clark North and Barton West, for the loving care shown to their mom during her stay.
