Mr. Thomas C. Sardelli, 87, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Erie County Medical Center.

He was born in Utica on February 19, 1930, a son of the late Biagio and Comasia “Josephine” (Salamino) Sardelli. He attended local schools and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School, Class of 1948. At the age of fifteen, Tom began working at American Press on Albany Street in Utica and eventually worked as a linotype operator for almost fifty years. He retired in 1993.

On March 31, 1951, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Tom was joined in marriage to the former Mary Rose Bruzzese. Tom and Mary Rose lived in Utica, where they raised their family and shared over forty-nine loving years together, until her passing on March 19, 2001.

Tom was a truly devoted family man, whose life revolved around their needs. He never missed any event in their lives, especially sporting events. He enjoyed woodworking in his home workshop; was an avid sports enthusiast; and a die-hard Notre Dame fan.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Nancy Sardelli, of Summerville, SC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Josette M. and Gary Mousso, of Buffalo, NY and Dineen M. and Michael Nemeyer, of Haymarket, VA; four grandsons, Matthew T. Singe, of Rochester, NY, Derek Sardelli, of Sommerville, SC, Anthony Sardelli and his wife Corinne, of Charleston, SC, and Teddy Nemeyer, of Haymarket, VA; one great granddaughter, Kaylee Sardelli; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Ann Bruzzese; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Teresa Calogero.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.
