Linda J. (Pontero) Barbaritano, 78, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018, in Crouse Irving Hospital, Syracuse.

Linda was born in Utica, December 8, 1939, a daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Critelli) Pontero. She was educated in local schools and graduated from TR Proctor High School, class of 1958.

Linda truly enjoyed her many years as office manager at the American Heart Association, where she worked until retirement.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking Italian dishes, especially her famous Utica Greens…but most of all…simply spending quality time with her family and friends.

On September 4, 1993, Linda was joined in marriage to Joseph Barbaritano. They shared eighteen loving years together until Joe passed away on April 13, 2011.

Linda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott Williams and Darlene Vitullo, of Ballston Lake; daughter, Debra Torchia, of New Hartford; daughter and son-in-law, Annemarie and John Spina; of Utica; loving grandchildren, David and Rachel Vitullo, Erica Vitullo and Johnny Laniewski, Jordyn Torchia and Jeff Albright, Matthew Torchia, Ryan Torchia and Shannon Stappenbeck; Jessica Hoage, Julie Hoage, Jennifer Hoage, and John Spina IV; and very special cousins and friends, near and dear to Linda’s heart, Peggy Reginelli, Theresa Forlano, Lillian Hughes, Carl Forlano and Therese Plante, Kathy Vanno, Theresa Pannofino, and Clareen Miserintino.

Besides her beloved husband, Joe; and parents, Anthony and Frances; Linda was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Mario Ruffo.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, with interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

In Linda’s memory, please consider contributions to the American Heart Association.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of the ICU at Crouse Irving Hospital, for all the loving care shown to their mother and them during this difficult time; along with a special thanks to Dr. Melinda McMinn, for her compassion, support, and guidance.

Mom... so much more than a mother in law, she was a loving caring friend, confidant, nurturing and selfless mother to me. We were deeply connected from the moment Scott brought me into the family. Mom will always be in my heart but the void in my life will remain and she will be missed more than words can express.

Scott and Debbie, your mom was so very special. I'll always remember the big smile, laugh and of course the hugs. Always kind and warm, someone that you always looked forward to seeing. I'm so sorry we will not be able to make it to the services, but you are both in our thoughts and prayers. I'm sure my brother and dad are with her already in the better place. However, she will be missed here for sure. Dave and Patty

My mom and I ( Rosalie Morelle), are so saddened to hear of beautiful Linda’s passing. My mom has been reminiscing of her times with your mom. She was a light in the darkness. She had the most wonderful personality, a true joy to be around. She will forever be remembered by my mom with love. I also loved your mom, enjoyed many memories when we were growing up. I am very sorry for your loss Debbie and Scottie. God Bless you all. Love, Gina and Rosalie
