Mr. Daniel E. Zegibe, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the Sitrin Health Care Center.

Dan was born in New Hartford, NY, July 1, 1922, a son of Abdoo and Stella (Slade) Zegibe. He was raised and educated in New Hartford, attending local schools. Dan grew up on the family farm, which was where the original Power Dam swimming area was located, and during the summers was a lifeguard at the pool.

He was self employed in many businesses, including the Gulf Station on Lafayette Street, and later the Esso Station on Oneida Square in the 1960’s. He operated the French Road Atlantic (where Chanatry’s is located) for many years. He then took a position with Parts Supply in Rome in 1968, and later purchased the business in 1970. Which he operated along with his son and wife until he sold it in 1980. In the 1960’s and 70’s, Dan was an avid bowler, but ultimately his best times were spent with his family; his affable nature and sense of humor always made him fun to be around.

On April 28, 1946, Dan was joined in marriage to the former Jeanette Carrock. They enjoyed sixty-two loving years; raised their two sons, and worked together in the family businesses. His beloved Jeanette passed away on June 14, 2008.

He is survived by his two sons and a daughter in law, Daniel L. and Lorraine Zegibe, of Stamford, CT and Frederick “Rick” Zegibe, of New Hartford; three grandsons, Daniel Z., Alexander, and Luke Zegibe; two brothers and one sister in law, George and Mary Zegibe and Herbert Zegibe; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Lauren Dodge and nephew, David Astafan; and two good friends, Chuck and Mike Sadallah. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joan Astafan, Leo Zegibe, Marion Zegibe, William Albert, Joseph Albert, Rose Weis, Eleanor Weis, and Gertrude Taylor.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated. Interment beside his wife will take place in East Hill Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Cedarbrook and the Rehab Unit at the Sitrin Home, as well as, the staff at the Presbyterian Home, where he spent two months under their care.

The Prayer of Incense will be sung on Tuesday at 6:45 pm. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Louis Gonzaga Church building fund.
