Richard Alan Hartnett, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home on Thursday, January 3, 2019.

Dick was born in Little Falls, NY, the oldest of five children, to C. Richard and Joanne (Lawyer) Hartnett. He was raised in Deerfield and educated in the Whitesboro School District, where he was an exceptional athlete and excelled in football and track and field. Dick was a fullback for the undefeated football team and held the school record for the shot put. Following high school, he served our country in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne. Dick was a carpenter by trade and proud member of Northeast Regional Council Carpenters Local 277. He worked for various contractors throughout New State for over 30 years.

A true free spirit, Dick will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of driving his Harley Electra Glide. Dick was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He had a great passion for the Adirondacks, which he shared with his son, and created special memories and an incredible father/son bond. Most of all, he just loved to be at the family camp, to sit on the deck, crack a beer and watch the deer and other wildlife. He will be deeply missed, especially by his son and best friend, Shane.

He is survived by his son, Shane Hartnett and Shane’s mother, Lynda Stanistreet; his cherished mother, Joanne Hartnett; his siblings, Barbara and Dennis Elsenbeck, Robert Hartnett, Steve and Kathy Hartnett, and Cathy and Don Allison; a very special friend, Cynthia Reppel; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by his father, C. Richard Hartnett.

The Celebration of Dick’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
