Miss Maryrose Solimando passed away after a short illness on Friday, February 1, 2019 in St. Luke’s Hospital of MVHS.

Maryrose was born in Utica, on March 4, 1929, a daughter of the late Rocco and Donata (Iuorno) Solimando. She was educated in local schools and a graduate of TR Proctor High School. Maryrose worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Berkowitiz DDS and later for Oneida County Social Services.

Maryrose was the sweetest lady one could ever meet. Her striking beauty and great sense of fashion, were always admired. She possessed an inner kindness and compassion, which enabled her to take an interest in whomever she came in contact. Maryrose always made you feel special; she will be missed by all who knew her.

Maryrose was predeceased by her parents, Rocco and Donata, and her brother, Rocco Solimando Sr., who passed away on February 2, 2017. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Annabelle Solimando; two nephews, Rocco and his wife, Donna Solimando, and Pete and and his wife, Lisa Solimando; a great nephew, Peter Solimando; and a great niece, Gina Solimando, all of Guilderland, NY; and also many cousins.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 6, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Interment will take place in the family plot in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, February 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica, NY.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at St. Luke’s Home and a special thank you to Betsy, for all she did for Maryrose and her family.

Donations in Maryrose's memory can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

As a young child and into my young adult years I was a patient of Dr. Berkowitz and always admired his beautiful receptionist . She was such a bright light in that office. She made that sometimes scary experience so much easier. Condolences to her loved ones.
