Mr. Lester Tanzman, age 86, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare.

Lester was born August 5, 1931 in Bethel Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Sam and Bessie Sokolsky Tanzman. Lester formerly lived in the Hunter House, before he became a part of the Upstate Cerebral Palsy family on June 21, 1990. As part of the Upstate Cerebral Palsy family, Lester lived at the Szczygiel ICF and the D’Amico ICF, as well as, various other residences of the Upstate Cerebral Palsy, until he finally returned to the D’Amico ICF, in Marcy.

Mr. Tanzman attended the Armory Drive Day Hab of Upstate Cerebral Palsy. His favorite pastime was having coffee at the Marr-Logg Restaurant in Utica. He also enjoyed country music and his alltime favorite song was “Take This Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck. Lester was an avid Yankees fan.

Lester will be sadly missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Ira Assael of East Rockaway, NY and Boca Raton, FL; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; his family at D’Amico ICF; and his special friend, Cheryl Apel, of Poland, NY.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Bessie; and his brother, Alvin Tanzman in 2007.

His Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the service commences at 4 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

Wow it saddens me to know , that I was off for week and come back to find out that your gone. I was going to show you videos and pics of my new granddaughter that was born preemie, and go to an empty room. Wow I am gonna miss you buddy, I'm miss u yelling Hey Hurry Up With My Meds I Wanna Go To Temple lol . But now ur an Angel 😇 fly high Lester may god bless you 😢 Love ya Nilsa

I can't believe the Joy and Entertainment of the house is gone. Who's gonna remember our birthdays? Lester you were loved by many and you will be missed by many more. While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil. John Taylor FLY HIGH LIKE A DOVE LESTER..
