Jack A. Murdie, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.

Jack was born on December 21, 1927 in Watertown, NY, to the late Jack and Mildred (Davis) Murdie. He graduated from New Hartford High School in 1946, where he was an outstanding athlete. Jack served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946-1949, and attended Utica College. On April 15, 1961, Jack was joined in marriage to the former Barbara Rockino, a union of fifty-six years. He was employed by General Electric in the 1950ís, and was a State Farm Insurance agent for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2000. After his retirement, Jack enjoyed his morning coffee with Brian and the Ridgewood Market crew until very recently.

Jack was a past member of both the Skenandoa and Yahnundasis Golf Clubs. He was an excellent golfer, at one time scoring two holes in one in a single golf season on the Yahnundasis course. He also played semi-pro football for a short time in the 1950ís. He was an usher for many years at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Jack is survived his wife, Barbara; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lourdes and Tracy Heaton; beloved grandchildren, Mary Katherine, Jack, and Margaret Heaton; sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Terrance Butterworth; sister-in-law, Jean (Andy) Patalak; brother-in-law, George (Theresa) Buccolo; nieces and nephews, Joseph Buccolo, Jocelynne Rawson, Kimberly Connors, Robert, Paul, Barbara, and Gerard Durr, Charles and Jacklyn Harrison, Michael, Matthew, and James Murdie, Karen Mary, Mark, and Joel Butterworth, and their respective families. He also leaves his close State Farm colleague, John (Betty) Meehan.

Besides his parents; Jack was predeceased by his in-laws, Samuel and Edna Rockino; siblings, Barbara Harrison, Paul Murdie, and James (Jean) Murdie; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Durr; and nephews, Georgie Buccolo and Steven Murdie. Jack was also predeceased by very special friends who were never far from his memory; his longtime New Hartford High School friends: Tom Hartmann, John Dorrance, Frank Wenner, and Bill Synal; and his former State Farm partner, Bob Moore.

The family will be receiving visitors prior to the funeral on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 9:30-10:30AM at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Monawk St., Utica. Jackís mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors will commence at 11:00AM at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The family would like to offer their deepest thanks to his caregiver Maida Krecidlo, who cared for Jack with great love and compassion, and the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care. Thanks also to Nick Durr, who is always there when needed.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrenís Research Hospital or Hospice and Palliative Care.

Barb - Never to be forgotten are all the memories Jack, Frank, Tom and Bill had, and all the memories we wives also shared. We have to keep in touch. With love and condolences, Judy.

I am saddened to learn of the loss of Jack. I knew him and his State Farm partner, Bob Moore years back. My heartfelt sympathies to the family. What a great guy.
