Francis “Fran” Garcea, 65, joined his family in heaven, passing away peacefully at home, with his loving wife by his side, on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

Fran was born in Utica on March 19, 1952, St. Joseph’s day, a son of the late Frank and Josephine (Brindisi) Garcea. He was educated in local schools, a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, and later attended Utica College.

In the 1970’s, Fran moved to San Jose, to join his mom, sister, and brother, who had already relocated there. He began his first business as Handyman of Cambell. He completed the California State Board and formed his new business, Francis Construction Co., San Jose. He built up a good reputation in San Jose for his quality work. Fran completed many projects and repeat business, doing work for the Benjamin Group and several notable executives with Hewlett-Packard, by word of mouth and recommendations.

On March 19, 1992, Fran was joined in marriage to the former Linda Grayson, originally of Wyoming. They have shared a very close and loving marriage. The couple returned to Utica in 2004 and had just celebrated their 25th Anniversary by taking an east coast road trip to Key West, FL, visiting with the niece's in Florida and North Carolina along the way.

A true outdoorsman, Fran loved his country home, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved to ski the slopes above Lake Tahoe. In younger years, he was always proud of the fact that he was on the ski patrol at Val Bialis in Utica. Above all else, Fran loved to have Linda make homemade treats and take to visit with those he loved, his endless cousins and friends. His loveable personality and random acts of kindness will be forever missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his nieces and their families; Marcy Moore and her sons, Zachary and Jacob Moore; Jamie Garcea and her daughter, Kayla Costello; Jolie Garcea and her son Jagar Soto; Jennifer Garcea Addington and her sons, Damien and Dylan Addington; and Nicole Garcea; his aunt, Augustine “Gussie” Brindisi, and many beloved cousins, especially acknowledging, Marie Garcea Manca, Carrie Bonanza, Marie “Tessie” Baird, Sandy Iannone, Carol Chezvalier, and sister Florence “Dolly” Yeargain; and also many special friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Garcea in 1972; his mother, Josephine Garcea and sister, Judith Stevens in 2003; and his brother, Rosario “Butch” Garcea in 2005.

His Funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., Utica.

The family would like to thank Dr. Garg and Dr. DeTraglia for the care and compassion shown to Fran during his illness. Also a special thanks to Fran and Linda’s neighbors and EMTs, Kevin and Mauve Yeardon, for their efforts and kindness during this difficult time.

In memory of Francis Garcea please consider his favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and CABVI of the Mohawk Valley.
