Joseph Timpano Obituary

Joseph J. Timpano, 71, of New Hartford, retired Oneida County Comptroller, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Joe was born in Utica, on February 10, 1955, a son of the late Dominick and Kathleen (Bifano) Timpano.  On June 28, 2016, Joe was married to Jill Calipari, sharing almost ten loving years of marriage.

Joe was a graduate of TR Proctor High School, Class of 1973, where he excelled in sports.  He was the quarterback of the varsity football team, as well as a member of the varsity baseball and basketball teams.  He later attended Bentley University in Boston, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting.  He then received his Master’s Degree at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

His work career began at Deloitte & Touche in New York City, eventually receiving his CPA.  In 1988, he returned to the Utica area to take the position as Comptroller for the Town of New Hartford.  In 1996, at the request of his good friend Pat Donovan, the then Oneida County Comptroller, Joe assumed the role as Pat’s Deputy.  He held that position for two years until the end of Pat’s term.  Joe ran for the Oneida County Comptroller position in 1998 and won and went on to run six consecutive uncontested terms.  Joe was the longest-serving Oneida County Comptroller.  He retired in 2023 and his list of accomplishments for Oneida County are endless.

Joe was a family man and a great friend.  He enjoyed playing golf, loved music, and especially loved spending time with family and friends in Sylvan Beach.  He was a diehard Yankee and Green Bay Packer fan.  Every playlist of Joe’s included Bruce Springsteen, his favorite.  Give Joe a dish of pasta (with sauce on the side) and on a separate plate, two meatballs and two sausages (with VERY light sauce) and he’s a very happy man.

He touched the lives of many with his compassion for others and his impeccable integrity.  Joe was a generous friend and possessed the ability to connect with just about anyone, always with an empathetic heart.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Jill; his four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Gabe (and his late wife Denise) Timpano, Dominick and Amy Timpano, Michael and Anne Timpano, and Robert and MaryJo Timpano.  He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, all of whom he was so close,  Katie Timpano, Madeline Timpano, Dominick Timpano III, Eddie and Cierra Timpano, Billy Timpano, Michael and Amanda Timpano, Abbey Timpano, Blake Jones, Layla Jones, Sophia Timpano, Dominick Timpano IV, Gianna Timpano, and Bennett Timpano.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 12 Noon, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, Utica, New York.  Joe's service will be live streamed at:  https://youtube.com/live/syHTf9zx7fY?feature=share

Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Utica, New York.
