Samuel R. Paciello Sr., 81, of Yorkville, passed away with loving family by his side, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital.
Sam was born in Utica, March 2, 1943, the oldest son of Pasquale “Al” and Mary Rose (Grosso) Paciello. He was educated in local schools and a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School.
On August 5, 1972, he was joined in marriage to the former Veronica Francavilla. They have shared over fifty-one loving years of marriage, living and raising their family in Utica, and more recently Yorkville. Sam was employed as a machinist at Bossert Manufacturing, until its closing, and later took a position as a city bus driver for the Utica Transit Authority. He worked with them for over twenty years, retiring in 2008.
A great lover of jazz music, Sam also enjoyed basketball and was huge Knicks fan. He was always fascinated with the weather, an avid reader, and an outspoken conservative, but, his true passion in life was fishing and he always looked forward to getting out to his favorite fishing spots.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Veronica; son and daughter-in-law, Sam Jr. and Amy Paciello; daughter, Melissa Paciello; grandchildren, Natasha, Alexander, and Nicholas Paciello and Dominic Cordero; one brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Cathleen Paciello; a sister-in-law, Marie Dodge and her family; and many beloved cousins, especially Louis Paciello.
Sam’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 22, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, 4 to 6 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.
